Chapter of the Year

Stony Brook University’s Chapter of the Medical Student Pride Alliance

The National Leadership Team is very pleased to announce Stony Brook University MSPA Chapter as the winner of the 2023 Chapter of the Year Award!

They have significantly grown since beginning a chapter in 2019. Under the leadership of President Alexandra Betancourt, Stony Brook has had many impressive accomplishments over the past year. Their goals last year included providing a safe space for the existing LGBTQIA* community on campus, growing the community to include more empowered queer advocates, and improving visibility of LGBTQIA* issues in curriculum.

Stony Brook started the year with a limited budget, but they didn't let this stop them! Some of their work this year included HIV/STI mobile testing, working on curriculum reform within their school, having LGBTQIA* centered movie nights, an Intersex Justice panel, a trans patient experience in healthcare panel, a Pride Celebration event, and much more!

Stony Brook is an encouraging snapshot of the work that all the chapters of the Medical Student Pride Alliance do across the country. We hope they continue their impressive work and inspire other Chapters and National Members. Congratulations, Stony Brook!
